All while Bette is struggling to find herself, her best friend, Penelope is struggling with her fiance, Avery. Avery is a cheater who is also a big party animal.  He moverd himself and Penelope to California, but would travel frequently back to NYC and cheat on Penelope.  She didn't know unitl one night when Bette was out alone and saw him making out with another girl. The next week, he called Penelope up and tole her the whole story. She broke up with him on the spot and prmoptly moved backed to NYC.  Bette and Penelope reconciled
